If anybody reading this has similar fears...

Don't worry.

Every clue you put in will feel like it is written in Letters of Fire, and it's just going to slide on past your readers until you get to your big reveal, at which point they will go ohhhhhh...

The one percent that do get it, will hug this knowledge to themselves gleefully and possibly, possibly contact you privately to ask about it. Treasure them, for they are paying attention.

(I've managed to pull off multiple Shocking Reveals that had plentiful foreshadowing in the same story, after the regular readers already knew I did stuff like this: it's super fun.)

Just - make sure that the story is readable the second time around, when folk know what's going on, and you're golden.

My favorite part is how they have the arrow pointing up to the image as if we might be confused where to direct our attention.

At first I thought the lamp made them believe in a higher power.

Honestly, a lot of fics for just about any major fandom read like generic porn with not much attention given to characterization, etc. or anything that would make it more pertinent to the canon.

Apparently back in the day the Gundam Wing fandom had a lot of writers who had never seen the show.
