Author does have a point on the genre as it has been created as a satire to similar works made by men. Coincidentally, it also connected to the raise of lolicon and debates on sexual assault laws thus a lot of early works were inspired by this. It is true that it had plenty queer authors who came out later on in careers but it had also straight women who wanted to take a stand against stratification and roles in society - copied all the weird rapey themes and plots over from their male peers.

However, it did evolve and today it is mostly just another comic genre and slowly it is graduating from school (ah pun) and intermingling japanese gay comic authors and yaoi artists. Also. Porn. Have at it if you wish and that's that.
