(Anonymous) 2017-09-06 12:07 am (UTC)(link)(Also, Whedon saying that he was a feminist isn't the same as presuming to speak for ALL feminists. I know he often did the former: did he do the latter?)

(Anonymous) 2017-09-06 02:59 am (UTC)(link)I completely disagree with Cameron, but I also disagree that he was "mansplaining." Mansplaining bothers me as much as it bothers any feminist, but Cameron is a creator of film so it makes sense for him to have opinions about film, and him simply expressing an opinion about a female character, and then explaining why he has the opinion he does, does not equal mansplaining in my books.
Also, Whedon saying that he was a feminist isn't the same as presuming to speak for ALL feminists.
I agree with this observation.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-06 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)Personally, I've never agreed with the notion that "If you're not part of group X you have no business expressing opinions about matters to do with group X." I agree that Cameron doesn't get to decide what's feminist and what isn't, but he does get to have an opinion on the matter, just as much as you or I do. So I suppose that's where our perspective's differ.
