Getting a diagnosis was part of me going onto a pension. I'm pretty high functioning - I can get by socially, it's just having to face stressful and unexpected things that will send me into panic.

Other than that it helps contextualise some things in my life, like being scared of everything as a child and a tendency to be singleminded in my interests, like Fandom.

My employment agency and my GP helped get the diagnosis done, as well as get the pension through. I can't speak for the American system though, since I'm in Australia and have the advantage of Medicare (public health system).
