I'm not the OP, but more often than not, especially in larger fandoms, the general comms get filled with cosplay, fanfics, fanart, icons and other stuff. Discussion about the show itself tends to be limited to that one post per month, or however often it is serialized, and the comm goes back to its usual posts about cosplay, fanfics, fanart, icons, etc. for the other 27-30 days of the month. I think that's what OP's gripe is about.

Well, I guess I've been a little spoiled by my main fandom's (Code Geass') main comm, where we often have character and episode discussions pretty damn often. Then again, Geass' main comm has been criticized for being all serious face and no fun, so...
