Why though? Fairy stuff at least has long been part of Ren Faires. Cosplay - well, if it's more or less a "period" cosplay, why not?

It's not like people who dress up at Ren Faires know two shits about the historical accuracy of their ~MEDIEVAL AVALON PRIESTESS GOWN~ anyway.

I get finding like modern cosplays or sci-fi cosplays a little off-putting, but I think anything suitably within the fantasy-historically inspired spectrum is fair game.

if you're on cast you do. If you're on cast, you are put through rigorous standards for what you can wear so that it's period-accurate down to the fibers. At least for most large Renn faires, smaller ones probably get more of an SCA-level pass at using polyester.

I don't know what SCA group uses polyester except by newbies and lender costumes for said newbies, sweetcheeks. In my kingdom, that would get you a hella lot more than a side eye glance.
