Re: DA
Nope, I always saw it as "100% of porn is made for people who pay for porn". like, the porn people aren't sitting around with a list "Things men like / Things women dislike" ** what they are sitting around with a list of is "Things that sell in porn".
** because for a start that is some cosmo-level bullshit right there, claiming "men like X, do X to get a man!". Garbage. Oh, and while I'm on this tangent, isn't it amazing how gender essentialism becomes much more widely accepted as A-OK FINE when attributing things to "Harmful male behaviours"? Like how certain types of eroticism is aimed at things that appeal to "THE MALE BRAIN", or how the google memo about how "Women are much more cooperatively focused" is bad, but a lord of the flies remake about how "girls aren't any more cooperative than boys" is also bad?

You know what? Thank you. That really is very kind. and actually you may deserve more than my stupid flippant comment. At work, right now, tho. Watch this space.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-13 09:01 am (UTC)(link)So it seems reasonable to suspect that pornography is broadly made with male viewers in mind (in most but not all cases), and this seems to match up with the reality that we see. And of course there's nothing intrinsically wrong with that but it is a distinctive element of how pornography operates (and I think the same is true mutatis mutandis of titillation and other forms of sexualization).
Also, in passing, I don't think most of the things that are being talked about in this thread have to be framed in terms of THE MALE BRAIN and I don't think you're entirely capturing the tenor of the problems people have with the Lord of the Flies movie.
Re: DA
I have a response, but I am at work, and a 20min comment about Porn might get flagged up as inappropriate use of resources. Lemme get back to you tonight.
