Re: Star Wars News

The thing with SW is the people that complain the most (it seems to me) are those who have this problem of wanting something as awesome as they remember the OT to be (when they were kids) but not wanting the exact same thing. And it has to live up to their expectations of awesomeness.

So when it inevitably doesn't (because their expectations are nigh-impossible)...they complain.

There's just too much cultural baggage associated with the movies and those making them have to please the average moviegoer (who doesn't actually care whether Han shot first) as much or more than the die-hard fan that's going to go see the movie even while they complain about how much it doesn't live up to expectations or is just a re-hash of what came before.

I like Star Wars. A lot. I can totally see how TFA echoed ANH. That was obviously on purpose. Like. Both probably for the "rhyming" aspect (though I'm not sure they quite 'got' what Lucas was getting at when he talked about that) and also a signal that, "HEY GUYS THESE ARE LIKE THE OLD MOVIES THEY'RE NOT LIKE THE PREQUELS WE KNOW EVERYBODY LOVES TO HATE THE PREQUELS THESE AREN'T LIKE THAT COME WATCH AND SEE."

I'm very interested in seeing how TLJ goes. Trying not to read too many spoiler tidbits as I'd like to be surprised. Not immediately going to be down on JJ doing the IX but while I thought TFA was just fine for what it was supposed to be (though it had some WTF moments for me too), if Rian delivers some awesomesauce with TLJ it'll be disappointing to know he can't come back with seconds for IX.

Okay, sorry, I rambled a lot.
