I understand, OP. I'm sorry you can't enjoy it any longer, but you don't have to feel bad about not enjoying it.

Haven't multiple people claimed to be the "real" author? I've seen so many pages and blogs of people who claimed they wrote it that I don't even know what to believe.

That being said, for years I thought it was the most hilarious thing on the internet, but then I thought about the fact that if it was indeed meant to be serious and not a troll-fic, that would mean the Author Notes about her self-destructive behavior were serious too, which is really not something to laugh at. As ridiculous as the story itself is, I just don't feel like I can enjoy it with a clear conscience if it really was written by someone who had serious problems. I convinced myself for so long that the whole thing was a joke and the author's online persona was a complete fabrication, but I don't think there's really any way to know for sure at this point.

Wait, what's the deal? I thought no one knew who the real author was. How do we know who it is and why should we be feeling bad?

Not too much info at this point, but if it's true, the author was a victim of CSA and stuck in the foster system.

so.. the claim is that the story wasn't written ironically?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I don't honestly know, some people have been saying it was a trollfic (possibly to get her brother's attention), and others see it as the unironic product of an unhappy teen. I haven't delved much into the topic to see if one side is more legitimate than the other. I guess once the book is out it will be put to rest, though.

She says it was a trollfic.

Yeah, that reveal, as well as the post explaining the origins of "Imagine how is touch the sky" post has made 2017 even more surreal and disconcerting.

There's a post explaining "Imagine how is touch the sky"??

(Anonymous) 2017-09-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently it's a very literal translation of a Spanish (maybe Portuguese) saying that is also, apparently, a Hanna Montana lyric.

Oooooh. I've never heard of the Hanna Montana lyrics but it does make more sense if it's a literal translation form Spanish; that is if you literally translate it without changing the order of the words in the sentence:

Imagine how is touch the sky
Imagina como es tocar el cielo

OOOOOOH MY GOOOOOOOOOD

I know!!!

(Anonymous) 2017-09-15 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
...wow, did people really never realize it was likely a literal word by word translation from some other language before?

[personal profile] mrs_don_draper 2017-09-15 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I, like literally hundreds of thousands of others, just thought it was a shit post, tbh.

AYRT

Sorry, I realized I probably sounded rude, I didn't mean to. I was just really baffled because it really, genuinely never occurred to me it could be anything other than a bad translation (and I always wondered why everyone was so mean about it...).

You're fine! I didn't think you were rude. I mean, kudos to being able to catch it!
