LOL, seriously? I don't know how people can be Flat Earthers, like... for real.

It usually goes along with a bunch of other wild-ass conspiracy theories, but yeah.

For years I told myself that no one was really a Flat Earther, that it was all a big joke like the Flying Spaghetti Monster or something, but apparently I am wrong and that makes me sad.

It really is so weird. Even if you refuse to believe people who have traveled all the way around the world or over the poles or who have orbited the planet or seen it from space, and insist photos of Earth from space/the moon are fake... there's the curve of the Earth's shadow on the atmosphere and the Earth's shadow during a lunar eclipse, and the lower part of distant objects hidden behind the curvature of the Earth...

That's too much science for people who clearly aren't into science.

Except it's not even the "complicated concepts and lots of math" science, it's just "paying attention to what's going on around you" science. You don't have to be "into science" you just have to be aware.

If you believe in a flat earth, you already believe in a massive conspiracy that encompasses the entire scientific community and all the governments of the world. So you're not really worrying about plausibility or logic, and you can just make up any old explanation for things like eclipses.

Too much science and logic for people who want to believe in vast conspiracies of governments and scientists. Or in some cases, they distrust science because God. Bizarre. Need better access to science education earlier in life before this delusional crap takes hold in people's brains.

Being part of a church organization often entitles you to ridiculous tax benefits. Among other things: being able to take time off for religious reasons, being able to campaign for funds, and most of all, being able to sell songs and stay relevant through attracting controversy to yourself.

I do believe very few people ACTUALLY believe the world is flat, but being part of a group can often lead to benefits strong enough to make you say otherwise.
