When I first read it I thought it was just another example of the ways they were being fucked up by IT's influence. Even the comfort they found in it had an evil side and they are basically dooming themselves. It's such a twisted universe.

That's an interesting interpretation, but not one the author intended, IMO. It's portrayed as a necessary and... well, maybe "pure" isn't the right word to use for an underage sewer orgy, but the intentions are painted as pure - Bev is saving her friends in a weird virgin sacrificey kind of way.
