Wow, I didn't even know that was an aspect of the movie/book.

That part (wisely) hasn't made it into either movie.

Mostly I think it's in the book due to the mountains of cocaine Stephen King was snorting at the time, and the fact that he was/is a cash cow and no one wanted to tell him "DUDE, NO. WTF."

For a while, King and Crichton could sell just about anything to Hollywood before the book even was printed.

People seem also to forget that now, sober and clean, King HAS given interviews about how the scene is something he shouldn't have written, and that he is glad it never will make it's way into any adaptation.

That's good. Unfortunately, trying to spin it and make it seem like the people who find the sewer orgy scene messed up are hypocrites for prioritizing it as more serious than homicides, per OP's secret.
