Because Beverly is the magical girl, and apparently her primary role in the faery tale is to save the boys by being the catalyst for their sexual awakening.

I'll agree with the other posters that while the murder of multiple characters is presented as suitably horrifying, the pre-teen sex is presented as a form of magical salvation. It's one element that I don't want to see in the remake/reboot.

EDIT: If I remember right, one of the ways that our human protagonists survive the events of the story is through faith in childhood superstitions, mantras, and good luck objects. Beverly's magical sex gets put into that frame.

How does having a sexual awakening get you out of a sewer, though?

To my imperfect memory: Having all had magical group sex, they've all magically bonded by that experience, and can magically follow their hearts out of the maze.

EDIT: It's not really a sewer, it's a mystical underworld which can only be navigated with the aid of magic.
