Are you talking about the industry generally? Because I don't think that the kind of fandom stuff that OP is talking about is the reason that Hollywood makes the casting choices that it does.

Yeah, I'm talking about the industry generally fixating on the person's sexuality and they're typecast as the gay or the lesbian from then on and generally not cast as any straight leads even if they've been playing straight leads for years previously

Oh. I'm not saying its fandoms fault if thats what youre asking. I'm saying fandom does it and everyone else does too. Reducing someone to their sexuality is the same basic thing whether you elevate them to queen gay or relegate them to typecast gay actor
