I think the point was that it wasn't part of the culture in question. I'm not sure as I haven't seen the series, though.

The concept of God is quite present and relevant in Fullmetal Alchemist. The main character is a self-proclaimed atheist, and there would be no need to distinguish oneself as an atheist in a culture where there is no concept of God or where that concept was a moot point.

Additionally, said main character is transported to Earth in the anime version of the series, and whether or not the society he is brought into is a religious one, they full well understood the concept.

I'm not saying that Ed and Heiderich would say Goddammit, it's just not out of the realm of possibility. The OP's stance that atheism = not using God's name, ever, not even in profanity is kind of misguided.
