This sums it up beautifully.

In fandom too it seems like the quasi-nuclear family ends up having to twist characterisation in very uncomfortable ways. The group Marge, Homer, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie no matter what their original characters were like. And those aren't exactly... healthy dynamics to idealize as the perfect family?
