Apparently they are trying to be like Game of Thrones or...be relevant in a "post-Game of Thrones" world was one thing phrase I saw used, in that they think successful tv show = making you fall in love with a character and then killing them off. So I kind of hate that, and I hate that there was already a death like that, and I don't like the Klingon design. I'm not normally vain about character designs but I like Klingons and I'm afraid they won't be relatable (to me personally).

But I plan on sticking with it for a little while at least. I know at least one of the writers is a Voyager novel writer and it shows (in a good way). It felt very much like the beginning of a book and I liked that about it. I also liked Michael more than probably a lot of people did. The intro music is also fucking awesome.
