That's a totally valid preference to have, obviously, but if that is your preference I don't think you can talk about the quality of the movies being what you care about.

Because Clerks II is definitely not a good movie. I feel that very strongly.

"... I don't think you can talk about..."

Nah. Pretty sure I can talk about whatever I want. Especially when it's what criteria I choose to use, for determining what media I like. You can feel differently, of course, but luckily, your opinions on what I can and cannot say aren't very relevant.

OK

That's a totally valid preference to have, obviously, but if that is your preference I don't think it makes sense or is coherent to talk about the quality of the movies being what you care about.

Because Clerks II is definitely not a good movie. I feel that very strongly.

I'm not sure why you think my personal criteria for deciding what I do and don't like needs to make sense to you, a person who is not me. Preferences are personal. They follow the logic of the individual who has them, because it doesn't make any sense for me to have preferences based on what someone else thinks is good. Also where did I claim that Clerks II was objectively a good movie? I liked it. I don't mistake my enjoyment of it as proof it's a critical success.

nayrt I'm not a Kevin Smith fan but you're kind of being a dick here.

I know I'm being snarky but I'm also not sure how else to respond, when someone responds to a post that says "That's a totally valid preference to have" with "Why are you saying my preferences aren't valid".

My point in my original post was that I don't think that Kevin Smith's movies, outside of Clerks, are very good. And my other point is that, while it's totally valid to just want things that feel like 90s Kevin Smith movies, if that's all you're asking for, it's probably doesn't have much to do with the quality of the movies, which is what my post was about, and also what OP's problem with Kevin Smith's recent output was.

Dunno what else to say really.

You are saying that their preferences is valid but then also saying its not valid ENOUGH to base a discussion on, which is undermining yourself and being rude. You don't think his 90s movies are good but clearly other disagree - making the quality subjective, but you are acting like its objective, which is why you are coming off like a dick.

I've never seen a Kevin Smith movie in my whole life but all taste is subjective, even your assessment of lack of quality.
