That I was totally allowed to follow a vocational training from the start and damnit there's nothing shameful in that. Wouldn't have learned as much interesting but useless stuff, and would have saved me nearly ten years.

-Having an actual interest in your career path is vital and pursuing solely for the money will ruin your mental health in the long run.
-How to study well.
-Community college is good option only if you plan ahead of time.

That I would hate teaching. :( Try to talk to people in the profession you are interested in as early as possible. Especially try to find people that have changed their majors from the one you are interested in. They will tell you more of the negatives.

Suck up to people

An actual degree is worthless, people get places by having connections.

Build a good relationship with a few professors or instructors so that by the time you graduate, you'll have people you can ask for letters of reference.

Oh god, this. I never wanted to see my professors during office hours because I didn't want to be a bother. Now I don't know how to approach them to get letters of recommendation.

Ditto. In reality, I think a lot of professors would welcome students showing interest in the class because I bet it rarely happens.

In my experience profs LOVE being "bothered" during office hours. That's why they have 'em. They like it when a student has enough interest in the class to want to talk about it outside class hours, even if the talking is only "I have no idea what is going on plz advise"

That education within a field you find interesting is in no way going to guarantee that you'll enjoy the kind of professions it leads to.

That one of my best friends was a toxic waste dump that would stress me out into an illness that got me booted out of college. That would've been nice to know.

LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS! LIVE OFF CAMPUS!

My first year roommate in residence was a fucking nightmare.

I lived on campus all four years and was glad I did. But then I had a single, the cost was lower than the equivalent off campus housing (and it included utilities, cable and internet!) and it was closer to the dining hall and my classes. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but it's not always better to live off campus - that's going to vary depending on the college and the situation.

I went to college in an expensive city where living off campus was far more pricey than the dorm and unless your parents are rich you were going to be living with at least 3 roomates.

That the economy was going to go to shit.

That taking the easy route is always a shitty plan.

That money is bloody important. You can't live on nothing.

To not bother going because you'll end up in debt and not be able to use your degree anywhere that is hiring

That I shouldn't worry about how expensive it is because I'm gonna be stuck with the loans until I die anyway, lol
