To be fair, it was done by a teenage girl in a world that's not as technologically developed as ours in many ways (the functionality of automail being an exception). It pretty much WAS put on by an amateur with whatever they had handy.

And i just can't...enjoy that. It hurts to look at it. Kinda like any fic that goes into huge details about Bucky Barnes and all the horrible ways his arm (might be) attached and how much it hurts all the time, etc, etc....

If I remember right, the whole process of getting an automail prosthetic is pretty damn painful. There was a flashback of Ed when he was a kid getting really sick when they were trying to attach everything and the tuneups hurt like hell too if Ed's reaction to them is anything to go by. I do like that these issues were explored in the anime, but I get why others wouldn't necessarily want all those details.

Yeah, fanfic is my happy-fun-smutty place, and while i'm not averse to h/c, i don't want endless, grinding hurt as the focus of a fic, or part of the 'kink' or whatever. To each their own, of course; I don't care what other people read, but I just can't enjoy that aspect of a kink like that.

The teenage girl was the assistant in the original procedure, it was done by an expert. But it /was/ done on a young boy who then continued growing, so the hex bolts have a weird scarring pattern, but they /are/ connected hardcore.
