There are a lot of authors that seem convinced that when Wolfram and Yuuri get married, Wolfram becomes Queen.
...

Oh God, the angst fics. I wouldn't mind them so much if it wasn't the same OOC thing every. Single. Time. And I don't know what makes me more angry, the fic writers writing Wolfram as a girl or the fact that they think girls are all like that. WTF. And... yeah, the Holocaust fics. I haven't seen any like that in this fandom, thankfully, but there are fics just... named after it? Do the fics even pertain to the Holocaust at all?

[identity profile] vivalanaomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
In a society where same-sex marriages are considered normal, I don't see why they would expect either one to take a feminine role. Well, Miko-sama does like the idea of getting Wolfram a wedding dress, but... Miko-sama just likes putting people in dresses.

No relation, I think, other than wanting to use the language of titles. One of them (a non-con ConZak fic, I think) is named after one of the slogans in Auschwitz. I didn't trust myself to deal with that. But one was a fluffy Yuuram fic titled "The Final Solution." That one I talked to the writer about, since I'm fairly certain she didn't understand the connotations of the title.

*Sighs* Angsty Wolfram fics. They tend to turn Yuuri into a bastard for rejecting poor woobie Wolfram. I don't get it. I mean, Yuuri has a point about not wanting to marry Wolfram. Wolfram is scary. Besides, I think if Yuuri ever showed interest back, Wolfram wouldn't know what to do with it. He seemed pretty disturbed by the idea of actually kissing him in the OVAs.

Precisely. I mean, I could understand it if a character actually exhibited feminine traits but Wolfram doesn't. Wolfram wears a nightgown for Yuuri's sake. The other two times he's been forced into wearing an actual dress, and in public, he clearly was not pleased by it. Yuuri seemed more comfortable (albeit very embarrassed by it) than Wolfram.

That's very bizarre, but I can kind of understand the second one, at least? I've never done extensive research on the Holocaust, certainly not enough that I'd look at that title and make the connection, but blantantly using things like Auschwitz slogans... what.

I wouldn't mind some angsty Wolfram fics if people didn't treat Yuuri so badly. I mean, yes, he's not interested in Wolfram, but he has perfect reason to be, and guess what, fans? He never once goes out of his way to hurt Wolfram. He likes Wolfram. Wolfram is his friend. The hell, fandom.

The Wolfram I play has a thing about nightgowns, but that's it. Sorta like his uncle, who has his really, really feminine pearl earrings and, ok, a Joan Collins from Dynasty vibe sometimes, but that's IT. Otherwise, fairly masculine. And loud about it, as they are loud about most things.

Yeah, that's why I brought it up. Just one of the ways KKM makes me... huh? I can see it cropping up (as it sometimes does, usually without good taste) in fandoms like Harry Potter, which at least as some canonical allusions. But the world with sandbears, baseball, peace-weaving curry, and Shibuya Yuuri combined with Nazis? Does not compute.

I think a lot of angsty Wolfram fics are just weird about it. Crying about what upsets him doesn't seem to be Wolfram's first response to emotions, and furthermore, he has better sources for angst than Yuuri's "infidelities." Which I'm not even sure Wolfram believes in, so much as he likes to look for fights and ways to keep Yuuri's attention. Wolfram accused Yuuri of licentiousness with DOLPHINS, fandom.

[identity profile] bodyline.livejournal.com 2008-06-16 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh God, Waltorana. He's more feminine than Wolfram, by all accounts (episode 3x03, I think was the one, where he had this very girly hand-motion waves and I laughed forever, because woooooow. This show just keeps getting gayer.) And Waltorana is still pretty damn manly. And Wolfram is more manly. So, um. Fandom fails.

I could see it being pulled off in a dark fic, where it's not the Holocaust specifically but it plays with that idea of mass genocide (which wouldn't even have to be the Holocaust.) The series certainly has some grounding for that, though the anime never really picks up on the darker aspects of a lot of what's going on. But it would really have to be a bloody brilliant and well-researched author. So that strikes out a vast majority of the fandom.

I agree. The thing about Wolfram is that I really get the impression that he only berates Yuuri in the way that he does solely to keep reminding Yuuri about their connection, not because he genuinely believes Yuuri's off whoring himself to so-and-so. Which is why I get the impression if Wolfram actually found Yuuri 'cheating' on him, he'd act completely the opposite, quiet, sad, etc. But really, he's not being serious. He doesn't truly think everyone is gonna take Yuuri away.
