Sorry, this is late so maybe you won't see it.

It depends on who it is. Like, in a couple cases when I've been stanning a BNF or someone more "approachable" than a major celebrity, I've made an effort to engage with them a little. Like, leave them an ask on tumblr, reblog their meta piece and add my own thoughts, etc. Generally ime actually interacting with someone makes them much more "real" and less "ideal".

Like I had a huuuuuuge platonic crush on a guy I followed on tumblr a few years back and eventually I got over my anxiety about it enough to chat with him and suddenly I could see the ways he wasn't the most perfect friend I could ever have. We had different senses of humor and different ways of communicating and we didn't really click.
