I feel bad but...thankfully it was a white guy.

0/10 Very lazy.

No trolling. I can't imagine the shitstorm if this had been a non white guy killing a bunch of white country fans.

Fair enough, I thought you were talking about Tom Petty.

Personally I'm glad that everyone is starting to realize that ISIS claiming responsibility for killings is largely bullshit-- this guy had zero connections. They just claim shit to try and sound more prolifically evil than they are.

I was thinking along those lines. They're still a problem*, they definitely need to be taken seriously, but they claim responsibility for everything.

Wasn't there an attack where at least two different groups claimed responsibility??

Nah, anyone who actually knows shit understands that ISIS don't claim anything they didn't have something to do with, and they have very specific dialogue for 'inspired' and 'worked with'.

The only people who think ISIS just go around claiming every terrorist attack are people looking for upvotes on reddit.

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-03 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
So you're saying that ISIS was, in fact, responsible for the Las Vegas attacks in your view?

Man your reading comprehension is awful.

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-03 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
It must be, I guess.

ill_omened said that ISIS don't claim anything unless they have something to do with it. and ISIS claimed (or was widely reported to have claimed) responsibility for the attacks in Las Vegas. so, if both of those things are true, it must be the case that ISIS had something to do with the attacks in Las Vegas. at least that's how it seems to me with my personal reading comprehension.

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

That is wrong. They have claimed stuff before and it has been proven the attack was not connected to them

Yeah, same. I mean - anyone *other* than a white guy was going to whip tRump fanatics into a frenzy worse than they're already in. Can't really deal with that.

But now he's a 'lone wolf' instead of a terrorist, so...wtf ever. (And 'lone wolf' has connotations of coolness and good-guy-ness. People don't take that as an insult, really....)

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-02 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel naïve now, I thought they meant lone-wolf terrorist. Didn't realize they were saying that in place of "terrorist."

They're saying it *instead of* terrorist.

It just doesn't have that same connotation.

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

Well it's not the same thing to be fair. He's a nutter and doesn't have a vast, well organised, ideaogically driven support network behind his actions.

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-03 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
It generally seems to be code for white. If there's a shooting by a non-white person, they're labeled a terrorist by the media, but if they're white, they're a "lone wolf".

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-02 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
But... mass shootings in the US have almost always been by white guys.

And yet...

#NotAllWhiteGuys

Re: Shooting in Las Vegas.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It usually is a white guy. When it's not, it's notable.

It's also usually a younger white guy, so it's notable in this case that the guy was in his 60s. (The Republican baseball practice shooter was also an older guy.)
