This, but also I sort of doubt many people were ever truly trying to base it off real wolf dynamics. It's become kind of a commonly known common misconception that wolf packs have an alpha and an omega, but the dynamic remains popular in fiction because it's simple and everyone reading it will understand what you were going for. In the case of omegaverse, it was an easy excuse for stories combining sex pollen + mpreg tropes.
