I loathe coffee shop AUs. I was a barista, but I still hated them even before I did the job for several years. They're usually OOC, usually have super thin plots, and usually the barista character doesn't hate their job. I tend to agree with the OP that the writers of these things have never actually worked in food service. I read fic for the escapism... why would I want to read mundane mediocrity? Anyway, at least they're always clearly labeled so I can avoid them, and I don't begrudge people if they like writing and reading them, they're just not for me.
