A lot of it's definitely that. With Jyn and Cassian, I also wonder if the reaction would have been different if either the movie had come out before the election or Trump hadn't won. Since a majority of white women who voted cast their votes for Trump, there was a lot of anger toward them in the last few months of 2016, and I think there were people who saw Jyn as a focus for that anger.

And yeah, most of the time I'm able to ignore it all and just hang out in my nice, friendly little corners of fandom, but every now and then my brain gets stuck on this crap and I have to exorcise it somehow.
