Re: Self-indulgent incoherent and probably mildly offensive rambling about Star Wars ships and race

Part of why Kylux took off is because Reylo/FinnRey/StormPilot spent the first 2-3 months after TFA took off at each other's throats screaming racism/misogyny/abuse all those other good ship war buzzwords while Kylux was going "Yup, we're having the Nazi villains fucking each other senseless because it's hot, lol."

The only real shipwar challenger was Reylo, and most Reylos were busy fighting the other two.

Now, the honeymoon period didn't last forever and wank started bleeding in, but it had time to gain momentum.

Yes, this. I was there when it just started out and Kylux was very much a crackship in the beginning. And an unapologetic crackship with people being conscious about the fact that they're evil at that. And people just ran with it.

Then along came the other shippers and screamed their little throats out at the Kylux ship and ... more people started shipping it out of spite. Then the other shippers turned on the Stormpilot shippers which made a lot of them jump ship over to Kylux because - at least at the start - that part of fandom was pretty chill.

But after it got big enough, the migratory slash fandom latched onto it, as well as the SJWs who had already left all their bullshit in the other parts of the fandom and the Kylux side of fandom got just as nasty and toxic as the rest, mostly because there wasn't just hate from the outside now but from the inside as well (most memorable are the soft!Kylux/hard!Kylux fights, the top/bottom fights and the part where a fanartist was driven out of fandom for "pedophilia" because her stylized art style made people accuse her of drawing Hux as a child, which was bullshit of course but you know how it is).

The "pedophillia" wank still pisses me off, even now. Especially because this is her freakin' art style - https://i.pinimg.com/564x/19/53/ce/1953cec29f0341b3785168b71c8eb79c.jpg

And even if you assume the art style makes him look a bit younger (which is debateable imo) ... it really, really doesn't make him look like a child, not even a teen? I mean, if we're super nitpicky, he should be taller because he's almost Kylo's height in canon, but that's about it. It's just baffling how someone can look at her art and go "yep, definitely a child!".

Yeah, I'm ok with some height difference exaggeration for style. I mean I'm a Steve/Tony fan and people love to make Tony tiny, even though the various things are inconsistent but other than Earth's Mightiest Heroes he's usually not that much smaller.

And even if he was quite a bit smaller (which wouldn't be hard next to Kylo), I think it's more than a little skeevy to act like not being tall makes a person instantly childlike and unable to consent. What the hell?
