Beyond the ship being gross, a lot of the early snape/hermione shippers patted themselves on the back for being smarter and more sophisticated than everyone else and portrayed their fave characters as hyper intellectual, boring assholes. It was all "poor Hermione, she has no one who can understand her and speak to her on her level. Good thing her teacher who is 20 some-odd years older than her is as smart as she is. And it's OK, guys. Due to time turner mishaps, Hermione's real age is 17 so it's all legal."

Honestly, I don't hate the stories themselves for the most part - they're definitely very wish-fulfillmenty, but in a way that works for me.

It's the relationship to canon that makes them bad IMO.

Oh man, that brings back bad memories LOLLLL

They've always been a supercilious bunch, for sure.

What, you don't think a roller skating snake is genius? Sacrilege!

Honorable mention: if you knew any of the people writing this shit you'd always notice that their characterization of Hermione was seriously whack, in the sense that the Hermione in the story was always just like the author. Hermione was a Mary Sue for Snapewives.

To be fair, the same goes for the Snape/Harry pairing, where Harry had a lot more in common with the authors than with book Harry.
