So you liked Skull Island!

(What's the top left one?)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
High-Rise, it's a great book by J.G Ballard too!

I haven't watched Skull Island yet.

And yes, the top left is High Rise. That was such a waste of time. The book probably works better, but the movie felt both rushed and agonysingly slow at once. Not even naked Hiddles could save that one.

The only movie I've liked him in so far is Only Lovers Left Alive, but that was more down to Tilda Swinton than anything else. I find him really sympathetic in interviews, but his acting really doesn't do anything for me.

I love Tilda Swinton and the rest of the cast, too. Poor Anton Yelchin! But the whole story was so stupid! And sadly, the music didn't work for me.

And I don't think his acting is bad or something. He really impressed me in The Night Manager.

Gosh I loved Crimson Peak.

But yeah most of these are deeply flawed movies.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't a fantastic movie but I enjoyed Crimson Peak, mostly because I love gothic stuff. Did you see Night Manager?

OP

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved The Night Manager! That was brilliant, and he had a lot of chemistry with Hugh Laurie, who aced his role!

The incest thing on Crimson Peak turned me off, and gothic is not really my genre in general.

I like him as Loki but then I don't follow his career(I don't with any actors tbh). But hey you like what you like and if most of these don't work for you then that's cool.

I'm sure he's been in other roles you like. :)

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
As long as he doesn't get to play James Bond, I'm good. He doesn't fit the handsome, debonair, ruthless MI6 agent. Henry Cavill fits that bill much perfectly and I could imagine Cavill's interpretation to be closer to Lazenby, Dalton and Craig - keeping it true to the books and giving him an edge of humanity without going into Moore and Brosnan territory.

OP

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure I want either Hiddles or Cavill to play Bond. I like both of them and I think Cavill is gorgeous, but I would prefer some lesser known, less handsome Bond.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hiddleston doesn't really fit my ideal of handsome, but I think he showed he could play that type with Night Manager. That said, I'd prefer someone else as Bond.
arcadiaego: Loki in the first Thor movie, in shadow, looking serious. (Loki)

I doubt he would even want to play Bond, to be honest. Though that sort of money is hard to turn down.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-07 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen High-Rise. War Horse & Only Lovers Left Alive were hella boring. Crimson Peak wasn't as good as I hoped it would be, but it wasn't terrible. I love the Thor movies. I like Tom Hiddleston, but I just haven't liked a whole lot of his movies.

Friend, may I interest you in Prince Hal from The Hollow Crown? Because if Tom Hiddleston made nothing but Shakespeare movies for the rest of his career, I'd be very happy about that.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I endorse this comment 1 million times. He was AMAZING as Prince Hal.

The Hollow Crown was amazing! I liked him there.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Crimson Peak, but a lot of that was Guillermo del Toro's take on gothic romance. The only other role I've seen him in is Loki, which, eh, he's funny sometimes. But I should probably give Only Lovers Left Alive a go, and any Shakespeare he's done.

I'm a little surprised no one's mentioned Return to Cranford. I think you can find all of it on youtube still. He was such a cutie in that one.

Shiiiit, I loved him in RtC! Him and future Lady!Doctor were super cute.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Man, what *do* you like from him? His Shakespeare? Not that it is bad, but, damn.

OP

(Anonymous) 2017-10-08 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
It's sad, isn't it? To like an actor who plays mostly in subpar movies?

I liked his Shakespeare, I loved The Night Manager, and I quite liked Avengers Assemble. Thor 2 was shit again.

I checked out his other work because I liked him as Loki, but dear god, the man has the most boring taste in projects I have ever seen.

Haha, do you like any of his movies? ;)

He does tend to do some quite strange stuff. I wouldn't have seen Crimson Peak or Only Lovers Left Alive if I weren't a fan but I enjoyed them, especially OLLA. There are some actors that I enjoy seeing in interviews but who choose stuff I have no interest in watching though.
