Oh man...

- Character has amnesia
- Character not as dead as hitherto believed
- Character may well be other character's dad (the dates fit, though there were other contenders)
- Character, while amnesiac, bangs a guy who turns out to be the brother of character's pre-amnesiac love-of-life (and looks v. similar)
- Character everybody was worried about turns out to have died quietly off-stage
- Character has been secretly pining for other character for years; other character simply didn't notice

(Not all one character, but all inside one story-universe - and readers are sticking with me. You can get away with a lot if you write with compassion, foreshadow a bit, and focus on how it affects interactions in subtle ways instead of just throwing it in for a Dramatic Reveal(TM).)
