For me it's less about wanting a potential SO to have read or watched specific things and more about wanting them to be fannish/geeky in general. I've been in a relationship with a non-geek and it just didn't work. He didn't engage with things like I did, and he couldn't even understand why I would want to talk with people about the latest episode or movie, and the one time I brought up fanfic (in a very cautious, general sense) he just said that that was weird.

Yeah, this is me. (And for that matter, they have to be fannish/geeky in a similar way to me. I wouldn't date a hardcore anti- for example, or an otherkin or Snapewife or something, even if we shared a lot of other interests.)

That sounds like being trapped in Purgatory forever.

Like, there's nothing wrong with him not having standard fandom interests, but like you, I'd be a bit out of my depth trying to relate to someone who didn't see the importance of engaging with the media they consume.
