The Master Sword and Hylian Shield is a classic.

I also love shotguns in any game. They are my go to weapon when available.

I've been playing a lot of Zelda lately so the Master Sword was my first thought.

My second was the Keyblade.

And now that I'm typing this I'm going, "but why didn't I say lightsaber???"

I think we can guess my preferred weapon type here...(I'm a terrible shot)

Depends.

In an RPG, typically anything that has a nice balance of power and speed.

But then in games like Tomb Raider (2013), I prefer the bow and arrow. That was the superior weapon and I don't care what anyone with their nostalgia goggles for double pistols has to say about it!

P.S
Fuck guns in Final Fantasy. Burn them all tbh!

Man, I never appreciated a bow and arrow until Last of Us. Stealthy weapons are fantastic.

YES, absolutely. And as someone who finds thrill in organization and cleanliness, I felt it to be the more fun approach to battle. Especially when the alternative was a loud, messy rush.

Torchlight 2's wrenches (gigantic wrenches, classed as warhammers).

All of Tidus's swords.

The Beekeeper sword from Terraria. (Bees! My God!)

I love the wrench from Bioshock 1. Such a classic weapon to whack people with!

The ones in Torchlight 2 are cooler, IMO. I love having my Engineer swinging around a wrench that's as big as she is. (Sadly, the wrench I had is now so outclassed she is currently using a tombstone strapped to a handle, instead, which is way less thematic. Would be cool for a warhammer barbarian, though.)

The buster sword and Masamune from FFVII. The Ancient Nord axe in Skyrim. The Soul Reaver. The Oathkeeper keyblade. Corvo's folding sword in Dishonored. The Ass Creed hidden blade. The Black Widow SR and the Avenger AR in Mass Effect.

Probably more.

Spears and other polearms. Give me something pointy attached to a long stick, and I will always pick that as my weapon.

I've noticed that my enjoyment of a game correlates with how satisfying it is to use the weapon that doesn't run out of ammo. In practice, this usually means a melee weapon, but shotguns, tranq guns, or rifles can all be great if they have infinite ammo. I also like entangling weapons like whips and chains.

Oh, that reminds me...

Morningstar from Borderlands 2. I don't usually like chatty gear (the talking armour in Fallout New Vegas drove me batshit), but Morningstar cracked me up.

The Wabbajack in Skyrim. Hit a bunny, may turn into a cheese wheel, or a dragon.

There used to be a sword in Baldur's Gate 2 named Angurvadal, but poking in EE Keeper I can't find it. It's a +5.

I am also very partial to Daystar, which while not nearly as powerful, it has a special ability to cast Sunray once a day. Sunray is great for fighting vampires, and given that vampires are notable enemies in the game, very useful in key plot points.

I am very fond of this mod:

More because it's the base inspiration for a headcanon sword in my Firestar of Thedas plot.

Also a fully upgraded vacpack in Slime Rancher. Maybe not technically a "weapon", but it's the primary device of the game.
