speaking of fanworks! This is actually one of the main reasons I rather enjoyed Copperbadge's 'Laocoon's Children' (the Stealing Harry sequel). It promoted Padma to MC level, and actually fleshed out her background and had her dad show up and everything. THAT was genuinely fantastic, even now it still rather stands out as one of the rare fics that went there.

oh, thank you, i will have to check that out! that sounds like exactly the kind of thing i would love to see in terms of fanworks.

It's pretty good! If you haven't read the entire Stealing Harry epic, I'd say you're in for a treat.

https://archiveofourown.org/works/987408 <-- the original, basically a 'what if Sirius didn't go to jail and everything changes from there', lots of fun, great interpretation of Snape that I rather enjoyed

https://archiveofourown.org/works/992265 <-- the sequel or 'harry potter but au', has Slytherin!Harry, Hufflepuff!Draco and Ravenclaw!Padma replace the original trio and it is A LOT OF FUN, honestly. it doesn't go all the way to the end of the books, but Copperbadge did include his notes on how he saw the story going, so it's a thoroughly satisfying read overall.

I FORGOT NEVILLE, he's in there too and gets treated a hell of a lot better than canon ever was to him. Seriously, he's one of the main reasons to read it too.
