Couples where the gender 'roles' are reversed

(Anonymous) 2017-10-13 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
What are some het pairings where the gender roles are reversed? For example, the guy is more nurturing/feminine and the woman is more macho.

My friend's parents.

In Futurama, Fry is more romantic and soft-hearted than Leela. And Leela would be the first to kick someone's face in for getting out of line.

Eve/Flynn from The Librarians. He's a sort of mystical guardian of magic and stuff, and manages to be both an easily flustered nerd and also very competent. And she's an ex-special forces badass who's his mystical guardian and it's really good and they're good together.

This is my favorite fic from the pairing it's called This Time by greyathena and it was written after s1 so it's sort of out of date at this point but it's still really good:

I read the subject line to this as 'Cupcakes where the gender 'roles' are reversed' and was so confused at first. I should probably go to bed...

Does it have to be canon? Because this one isn't (unless you count some crushy hints in school mode), but I love Naegi/Sakura from Dangan Ronpa. He's a Good Boy(TM) who tries to save everyone and she's a world champion mixed martial artist with a pure heart. ♥

Please. Is the trademark thing REALLY migrating over here?

I mean, I don't know about migrating, I've been here for a while

but hey. You're lucky. I could have busted out the H™L.

Sadistic Beauty (Lezhin comic). The woman Doona is older, taller, probably physically stronger than the boy, who is younger, weaker, more sensitive, and lets the woman tie him up.

Belle and Rumplestiltskin on Once Upon a Time--she's really adventurous and brave and reckless, and stands up for herself and others, and he raised his first kid pretty much by himself and is a homebody that does the cooking, was raised by a pair of lesbian aunties, and made his living at weaving and spinning before accidentally becoming a sorcerer. Oh, and he had a doll as a boy that he cried over when he got it back as a man.

Steven/Connie in Steven Universe, for a given value of "macho." Connie conceptualizes herself as a knight and a protector to Steven, while Steven's defined by his empathy.

Hester and Tom from the Mortal Engines quartet. She's chaotic evil, he's lawful good! Together they are... unhealthily co-dependent!

It's a messy relationship is what I'm saying.

Eowyn/Faramir. Though she gives up being a warrior to become a healer, she's still more of the fighter than he is. He's the thinker.

Arguably, Kara Danvers/Mon El, if you read his inexperience, irresponsibility, and difficulty with social mores as less 'entitled fratboy' and more 'gender reversed pretty princess never expected to do Responsibility Things'.

Which I do.

C'mon, people - his mum the planetary warleader tried marrying him off to get someone she *liked* into the family.

That's Pretty Princess Classic.

I can think of a few.

Maggie/Jason (Growing Pains)
Kirsten/Sandy (The OC)
Olivia/Peter (Fringe)
Robin/Ted (How I Met Your Mother)

Eve/Flynn (The Librarians)
Happy/Toby (Scorpion)
Penny/Leonard (Big Bang Theory)

I loved that in T:SCC, John was the one who was vulnerable and needed protecting and Cameron was nearly invulnerable and was all about protecting him. He was also quite sensitive and empathetic, while Cameron was, by her very nature, unemoional and pragmatic. It was awesome.

And okay, they weren't together sexually in canon (unless you count the metaphorical sex in the final episode), but I think it's fair to say they were a canon pairing.
