There is some fic but not a huge amount. For some reason, Russian and Chinese fandom have taken a strong liking to that movie and it shows in the amount of fic in the corresponding languages. Of ~120 fics on AO3, not even 50 are in English which is pretty interesting, I think. Judging by the tags, they also have the more interesting ships imo but that's a matter of personal taste.

I saw the trailer in January and legit thought they were time traveling like in Assassin's Creed and lost interest when they (apparently) weren't.

OK, I don't care much about the Excalibur mythos anymore or for live action movies at all, but I can totally get behind this idea.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-14 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Same! I got outvoted and watched it with a group of friends, and thought it wasn't so bad. The music was great and the magic looked pretty interesting.

There's one fight scene where's he's breathless and confused afterwards, someone says something like "great fight" and he blurts out "wasn't me".

I know someone whose seen this a dozen times and insists that anyone who doesn't think it's great just *~doesn't undertand*~ Arthurian legend the way she does, because she studied it school, doncha know.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Er... yeah. I've read a lot about the Arthurian legend too, but the trailer for this movie just didn't appeal to me. I'll probably watch it eventually, but I don't have high hopes for it. Charlie Hunnam isn't one of my faves, I find him kind of bland as an actor.

You mean when he grips the sword with both hands and everything just explodes and his eyes are glowing blue? That was awesome. Also, apparently Excalibur can distinguish between friend and foe, looking by how they are all standing around afterwards.

All I want to say is this movie would have been an amazing 10-ep series. It had so much stylish ridiculous shit going on, and they montaged through things that I really wanted to see played out. Plus the ending battle was trash and the animagus maybe being Gwen but lol we're being coy about it... it had so much potential.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the animagus seemed more Morgan Le Fay/Nimue/Morgause than Gwen. I thought the handmaiden with the blond hair seemed to be a hidden set up for Gwen. Completely behind the 10-ep series idea though. I could have watched a great deal more of the movie and still be interested and delighted with it.

Oooh I've been thinking of watching it or not, but reading this secret I think I will.

This is the opening scene (about five minutes) and it already has a lot of the stuff we see later. The music and scenery are gorgeous, the magic is frigheting and impressive, and Eric Bana as Uther is really pretty and awesome. Give it a try and see if you want to continue after that. *g*

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa. I think I do.

Thanks for the stan!

I will definitely give it a try! Maybe I'll end up watching it in a bit since I don't have much to do today. :P

I love you OP, I felt like the one person who remembered this movie even happened. I wish it hadn't had to go up against GOTG2 on its opening weekend. It's not a masterpiece I think but I did enjoy it a lot.

Then again, I do apparently have a thing for Guy Ritchie's directing style? Also Jude Law. So I'm not exactly unbiased on the matter.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
OMG, Jude Law was fantastic in this! But it's true, it didn't have a chance against GotG. I got to see both movies on the same day right after each other, but for others it was either/or and the room was a lot fuller when GotG was running.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-15 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
I really enjoyed the hell out of this movie and was sorry it didn't do better - though putting it up against GotG really wasn't fair or bright at all. The visuals were stunning. There's a scene where he's covered in mud and screaming with his whole body arched and his white white teeth and just - damn. Londinum was brilliant in its rendering too. And I liked the take on the story too - scrapper Arthur who was hungry and cunning like a starved wolf in a city is a fascinating idea and I wanted more and Charlie delivered on the acting for me. Not to mention it was the usual Guy dialogue which is always a delight to listen to. Jude did such a good job eating up his lines and when he screamed over his SPOILER I just - another damn. Right in the gut. I even really enjoyed most of the side characters and Arthur's whole 'fine, lets give the sword a yank and get it over with so I can get on with life' was so perfect.

Also I'm an Eric Bana fan and it was eerie how close he and Charlie look when you really pay attention.

But yeah, I left this movie feeling like I'd just gotten off the playground and really in a great mood (frankly, I saw Wonder Woman next and as much as I enjoyed it, Arthur was the movie that had me leaving the theater feeling actually happy and bouncy).

I... had no idea the sword could be a kink though.

But I support that 110%.
