I would think their parents bought Scrabble when they were little and they still had it in a closet or a box somewhere in the house, or maybe they're organizing a donation drive and someone donated an old game...as a writer I could think of some easy justifications for it if I needed it but idk, Scrabble tiles seem like a normal thing for people to have in their home.
