It started when The Rock tweeted a couple of times hinting that Vin Diesel was trash and he hated working with him on Fate of The Furious. So presumably they were already not fans of each other, but were keeping their dislike on the dl until those tweets.

Then this other actor from the films, Tyrese, started going after The Rock on twitter. Judging by some of Tryese's tweets, it sounds like Tyrese (and maybe Vin as well) really didn't want The Rock to take his own solo movie if the studio offered it. They tried to talk The Rock out of taking the movie, but The Rock took the movie anyway, making Tyrese angry, because he feels a solo movie is destructive to what the franchise has always been, which is a team effort.

The last I checked, Vin Diesel hadn't made any tweets about The Rock or their disagreement, but he was asked about the situation in an interview and his reply was definitely intended to assert professional dominance over The Rock. He basically said than as far as the F&F team went, The Rock was like his little brother, and that he protected The Rock from stuff The Rock didn't even know about.
