I wish Depp wasn't in it at all.

as a massive fan of the first one (i can probably still recite it and the director's commentary in my sleep and i haven't seen it in years), it's really eerie how much depp's performance now differs. i realise it's been 14 years so of course he will be different, but it's really... slapstick now? clowny.

anyway to sum it up i agree.

Also, setting aside his acting ability being bad, he's a domestic abuser.

I suspect he's no longer up to the verbal comedy of the character, so the movies rely more heavily on the slapstick. Wasn't there something in the news about how Depp was now being fed lines via an earpiece instead of memorizing them? That's not going to help.
