Yes.

Speaking as someone who was raised to believe exactly that and has spent a long time working to unlearn the ingrained prickling when someone declines, there's a decent chance that that's the problem. Food plays a huge role in hospitality in some cultures, and if you were raised in one of them, it does take effort and self-awareness to untwist your asshairs about it, even if you intellectually know that hey, maybe Susie's refusing because she has an allergy/intolerance/sensory issue/doesn't feel well/just isn't hungry right now.

That's useful to know! I should prbably figure out a better way of navigating those situations.

It's odd because I feel like in my family meals and cooking are highly valued in a different way, so I feel like I'm doing good by being enthusiastic and willing to try new things. Meanwhile I get judged by these more traditional mothers for being a difficult picky eater. I LOVE EATING.
