Which are your favorite gen fics? What makes it your favorite? Are there any crossovers involved?

Fandom in subject!

I really love Child of the Storm, a Harry Potter Au crossover where James Potter was Thor put on Earth by Odin to teach him humility. I haven't started the sequel yet. But the author keeps adding more and more fandoms and somehow making it work. It is gen so far. There may be a pairing at some point, but it won't ever be the focus of the series.

I like it because I love crossovers and because the author takes a concept that sounds ridiculous and makes it completely work. I got out of the Potter fandom, but this one combines other fandoms I love. And it is just really complex in a good way and really well written. There is great worldbuilding too, making all the fandoms work together.

"Red" by big-pink, an old-school SPN fic and still the one fanfic I found scary at points. (Maybe not 100% gen, but the bit of flirtation between Sam and an OC feels like something right out of the show).

BIG PINK! Holy gods, some of the best SPN fic out there.

Those Teen Wolf ones sound AMAZING. I'm a sucker for a good Stiles Stilinski fic.

Out of interest, what did you think of the Nogitsune arc? The mythology left me cold but I thought it was one of the best acted bits of Teen Wolf. I mean I was genuinely terrified during that one particular ep where Stiles is in the basement of the asylum. /rampant fangirling

I really wish fandom had embraced the horror aspect of that arc more. I am a slut for horror stories where the characters can't trust their own mind or the things around them.

Omg SAME. That arc had so much potential. I know it's a tired thing to moan about but I really do despair of all the freaking coffee shop and high school AUs when canon has such juicy material that just gets left untouched!

I have mentioned it before, around here, but "The Raven's Blade". It's basically LotR from the POV of Boromir, with a extra character - an older, wiser Kíli - stepping in and altering events. The second fic flips that with Boromir traveling back in time and getting involved in the Erebor quest, and thus altering history. The third and fourth fics play out the effects of the changes caused.

I know Valandhir continued editing the story, but that was in her German translation, since she wrote it in English first, then translated it back (she's German).

While she and I RP'd more shippy ideas later, the series itself is gen.

Hope you like it then! The effects of reading it has marked my life for the last four years, as it inspired the trio of Silmaril muses who lurk around my mind a lot. Of course part of that is due to the RP I mentioned.
