"perhaps the same could be said of all posts on Tumblr"

... you could say that, but it wouldn't make any sense. Tumblr isn't 100% social activism posts. What makes the post referenced in the secret different is that it's touted as a movement with the implication that somehow using that hashtag is spreading the word... which it is, but only in a relatively small percentage of the population they hope to reach.

I guess.

I don't know, I just kind of feel like, if it's an interesting and valid discussion, who cares about the rest of it. It's not like it really precludes other forms of activism - at least, no more than spending your time on any other random discussion on Tumblr does.

I enjoy history and agree it sounds like an interesting discussion. If it were only about discussion, that'd be great. But I see OP's point as well - it's not just people talking about how cool history is, it's meant to be a movement, specifically to educate and reclaim a historical figure. That's the goal. With that in mind, a tumblr hashtag is... probably not a terribly effective means of reaching that goal. A quick search for that hashtag reveals this:

https://www.tumblr.com/search/%23reclaimpocahontas

For those who don't want to click, that's 6 posts all by the same person, the most popular one with less than 700 notes. It's true that this doesn't preclude other forms of social activism, but then, that was never OP's claim. OP only said they felt it was ineffective and it looks like it is.

Fair enough.
