I do not believe that this is just a closet door opening. Yes, destigmatization and increased visibility are part of the picture, but they're not the whole picture, and I don't think the whole picture is all rainbows and sparkles.

Like... why? It doesn't really seem prima facie impossible or unlikely that the increase in trans-identified people is primarily because of destigmatization and visibility. If anything, we should expect destigmatization and visibility to increase the number of openly trans-identified people. I don't understand why you believe this is not just a closet door opening.
