Huh. This is interesting. I'm not in the fandom, but I had definitely kind of got the impression you talk about, that Haikyuu is a much "superior" brand of sports manga.

But all that stuff is so totally par for the course in anime/manga, unfortunately. So it's not really surprising that fandom tends to ignore it.

I'm all for people interpreting characters the way they want -within reason, based on canon- but if you seriously think Kageyama is an evil bully/asshole then I'm sorry to say your reading comprehension is more than questionable (or you haven't actually been paying attention for roughly 200 chapters).

I'm a bitter shounen manga vet, and Haikyuu is the only one that never skeeves me out with the way it treats its female characters. There are very few times anything remotely in the realm of fanservice is used for humor, so for you to call that illustration typical is pretty baffling. Also it isn't even in the real manga. It's an extra gag panel where the joke is that they're actually waiting for her to drop the food she's trying to hold onto. But you must have a pretty shallow reading of the whole manga if you think Tsukishima and Kageyama are just huge assholes, so that's not surprising.

And maybe you think I'm one of the "seething" fans you're afraid of, but this stuff's pretty straightforward.

You know, I can actually see someone who doesn't pay attention to what they're reading thinking Tuskishima is an assholes. He still can seem pretty abrasive/cold and yeah, that might make people dislike him. I disagree with a lot of the things people who don't like him say about him, but to each their own.
But Kageyama? Did they even read beyond the earliest chapters?

I stopped reading this ages ago but how is Sugawara doing?

He died at the end of 200. Volleyball to the head, went out like a bang, no one was expecting it. Because of the situation the team was in, they had to keep playing with 5 players and lost the game anyway. I almost gave up reading it. They're just over the redemption arc now. I'm glad his death was avenged.

Just kidding he's good, he helps the team with his tactics.

Tsukki and Kageyama are assholes? Okay okay okay cool cool cool cool but you're wrong.
Sorry.

I'm guessing you haven't read more than one volume or so? It's okay, we all make irrational snap judgements sometimes. :) Just remember - character development is a thing that exists!

This got such a rise out of people I love it

(Anonymous) 2017-10-24 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
If by "a rise" you mean people politely disagreeing based on actual canon facts, sure.
(I'd even be tempted to say "Hi OP!")

:')

maaaaaaaaaaaan

if you think this is "getting a rise out of people" i don't even know what to say

this is so mild

there's literally like two replies actually disagreeing
