I'm not alone then. At first I liked the actor from his Q Leap series, so, yeah, that helped.

Picard is definitely my favourite but I really loved Archer as well, he was a fun captain.

But seriously, I know quite a few folks that would agree with you so you're not alone!

I put Janeway RIGHT behind Picard; I get a lot of flack for that so I understand hiding.

I think Picard was a bit more pompous. Not evil, just pompous. All the Star Trek captains were prone to a self-righteousness; it comes with the job. So of course Archer is a bit proud, too, but not in exactly the same way; he's more of a trailblazer and a new technology tester than was Picard.

Also, Archer has a dog. A ship's captain with a dog is an appealing trope.

Look up the Rise of the Federation series by Christopher L. Bennett. Amazing post-season-4 Enterprise series, with a ton of Archer.
