I like Joel McHale, but his character is definitely a dickbag, and a bunch of the characters are dickbags. And frankly, they're all dickbags in ways that seem very common to Dan Harmon shows, and usually feel like Dan Harmon working out his own personal issues with arrogance and dickbaggery.

That said: it's a good show. I would say season 1 is pretty good, season 2 is extremely great, season 3 is decent, the rest is pretty ehhhhhhhh. It's funny and worth watching if you can deal with the dickbaggishness.

I mean, they have a lot of lovely moments, but if you dislike Joel McHale, you're not going to enjoy the show much, because his character get a looot of screentime. Watch some clips on youtube of Troy and Abed and that should satisfy you?

I don't think this show is funny, odd considering I love Rick and Morty.

If it's worth anything, OP, my husband hates Joel McHale (especially from The Soup). However, he powered through the first couple of episodes and loves it now.

I say give it another try, the show is great and Troy and Abed are adorable.

I also didn't really like the first episode the first time I saw it (when it first aired), and couldn't even get through the second (that's when I gave it up) but after hearing a ton of good things, I gave it another try a couple years later, and ended up loving the show. I still don't like the first handful of episodes that much, but the show overall is really good, at least IMO.

if you just find Joel McHale unwatchable then I don't think it's going to get much better for you. which is a real shame because I love Community.
If it was Jeff's attitude towards Britta specifically that bothered you I think it would be worth trying to get past the early episodes. The show definitely starts off with Jeff as a Regular Joe protagonist pursuing a the Hot Girl character, but it really hits it's groove after it gives up that pretense and becomes the post-modern ensemble show we all know and love.

+1, this really bothered me but this dynamic in particular becomes a lot better as the show goes on. But personally, Jeff is only bearable for me when he's around Shirley.

The show is probably bearable now that it's off the air and the obnoxious fans aren't boo-hooing about "idiots" choosing to watch The Big Bang Theory over their super smart, intellectually stimulating sitcom. But I still say don't waste your time, watch Atlanta instead.

tbf Big Bang Theory is a very bad sitcom

Also sexist, offensive, problematic as hell and very dumb in general. Chuck Lorre's shows are disgusting and everything wrong with cis white straight creators.

Him and Joss Whedon

what's wrong with people who got their start writing for Roseanne

It is but that fact doesn't make Community watchable.

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
That's an extremely strong take

(Anonymous) 2017-10-26 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that thing is unwatchable. Grow up, the world doesn't revolve around you.

Echoing what others are saying itt; if you don't like Joel Mchale, you may not enjoy the show. Either way, I'd recommend watching at least 3 episodes to get to know its pacing and characters a lot more. I don't think stopping at the Pilot for a show you may like isn't always the best idea.
