Besides...don't get me wrong, I'd totally prefer a lesbian pairing to a ciswoman/transman relationship most of the time too, but calling it a cop-out? A relationship where one of the members is trans is, from several perspectives, at least as transgressive (hur hur) as a gay relationship.
111. Me too, and I never even finished GW...someday I should, when my tolerance for cheese is high. I'm not sure how this is a secret...but then again, I don't have a friendslist full of Heero/Duo fangirls, so maybe your situation is different. XD
149. I find it really depressing that this has to be a fucking secret in fandom, but unfortunately I can understand why you'd feel the need. I hope you someday get friends from whom you don't have to hide your hatred of callous, unconscious homophobia and straight privilege, though.
(Also, side note: I'm sure there are people in the comments--haven't read them yet--going 'OMG I'M GAY AND I USE THE WORD A LOT! YOU'RE JUST OVERSENSITIVE!' They can STFU--you do not speak for all gay people, and others have every right to ask that people stop using hate speech, no matter how casually it may be intended.)
Edited to add that yeah, I think there is a question of double-standards to be raised here, and simply dividing the world into "people who can use this word" and "people who can't use this word" is simplistic. But I do think there's some validity to be had in the idea that people who've had (or are more likely to have) a word used as hate speech against them have more right to reclaim it and dictate its usage. Simply ragging on them for omg double standards without examining the reasons behind those double standards isn't much help either.
