Oh, fuck you.

It's people like you who give that word power. I'll say "faggot" all I want, because people shouldn't get upset over words. Because that's all they are: WORDS.

Yep, words that will give people a certain impression of you.

I'm so sick of this argument, so I'm going to break this down nice and simple for you dumbasses.

Words are not just words. Words are symbols. Words and the human capacity for abstract thinking that allows us to assign specific meanings to those words are the only motherfucking reason we are as advanced a species as we are. And people who complain about words don't give them power. It's a consensus decision, because if "toast" meant one thing to me and something else to you then we'd all still be rolling around in our own shit. That's why people fight over words, that's why people try to impose what and how words mean. There's a direct link between those words and what we think.

Words are powerful. Complaining that they aren't or complaining that people are complaining that they are aren't going to change that.

THANK YOU

Fandom prides themselves in being so smart, so I don't get why seem incapable of understanding this.

Oh, that's just beautiful - as a writer, I appreciate that. Words *are* powerful things, some people forget that.

My mother's boyfriend uses "faggot" all the time, not even with the usual connotations, but just randomly, like "Why aren't the dishes done, faggot?" But he says it with such harshness and distaste... I am a straight girl, and so I guess it shouldn't effect me that much, every time he says it I cringe and die inside.

And the worst part? My mom's been doing the same thing ever since she moved in with him.

Regardless of who says it, or how they say it, or who they say it to, it is still a hurtful word. The origin of it is especially harsh...

In conclusion: WORDS MATTER. Just ask someone who was bullied in grade school. I'm sure they'd tell you the same thing.
