At any rate, the OP always has this simple option: No like, no read.

(Anonymous) 2008-06-23 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)It's not that she's a bad writer. She's written a couple of things I did enjoy. It's just that her prompts are coming out so bland. Every fic is the same! You could swap the names of the characters out in every single one and see no difference. I would rather she had taken 20 or so prompts and actually put some work into it instead of banging out 57 identical fics.
And the thing about it is that none of it would matter if her claiming didn't affect other people's, but because the number of claims being expanded didn't happen until AFTER she'd taken so many prompts (and, in fact, directly because of her), by the time they WERE opened up to more than two claims, a LOT of people had already been put off by her grabbing all the prompts. I've also run across people who thought there was no point in participating this round - they thought they'd grab a prompt for a particular pairing, found that EVERY ONE had been taken by her, and thought there wasn't much point after that.
Yes, I am going to be a complete coward and post this anonymously.
Re: 135
I realize you may never see/read this, but...
I don't think you're a coward. Anonymity is the whole point of this comm, after all, and I may regret not logging out myself.
I really didn't realize, until after reading comments here and poking around myself, that the "57" in the original secret wasn't an exaggeration. I also didn't know that the claiming numbers had been changed because of this. So, yeah, I can now see how "no like, no read" can become rather frustrating.
I can only guess as to why someone would take on so many prompts; as a challenge to oneself, I suppose. But sometimes it's best not to do that publicly.
This is only my second time participating in the comm, and I haven't been a member much longer than that. I read through all the prompts and, though many intrigued me, I limited myself to two because I felt that was all I could handle (with any degree of success). But that's just me.
I've also run across people who thought there was no point in participating this round - they thought they'd grab a prompt for a particular pairing, found that EVERY ONE had been taken by her, and thought there wasn't much point after that.
I think that's a real shame and contrary to the spirit of the comm. I think it's interesting to see different takes on the same basic idea.
Still and all, the SK mods may want to consider limiting the number of prompts per claimant next time.

(Anonymous) 2008-06-24 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)But, yeah. I have seen some good fic this time around, but not nearly so much as there has been in the past. And a lot of that is, I feel, because people see a prompt has been claimed and think "oh, I won't take that, then".
