Uh, I didn't say I agreed at the OP at all and am not making that argument. It just bothers me when people say "I CAN SAY THIS WORD 'CAUSE MY COUSIN'S SECOND-COUSIN'S BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER'S HAIR DRESSER IS GAY AND HE USES IT." Because some people do see gay people saying it and use it as justification, bb.

So we are both in agreement: it's better to just not say the word overall than say "Oh, it's OK if just gay people use it, so if I know a gay person OK with it..."

I understand I suck at satire and irony, I was just demonstrating how only letting gay people say "faggot" doesn't make the word any less insulting. if the OP hadn't added that last bit, I might have actually agreed.

If a word is that bad, no one should be saying it.

I'd rather see those words thrown around in a joking manner. I like to think that one day those words would just devolve into slang that everyone uses and loses it's original context. That's what happens to all words, doesn't it?

I know words have power, but they also lose that power once the original meaning is lost. D8 *wishful thinking, I suppose*

you're exactly right. That's what I like to think, anyway. It's all cultural, and the way it gets thrown around now, well, the main reason it still HAS that offensive power is because of people like the secret poster, and like... dumb rednecks who still use it that way.
