149. Oh you're just being too ~PC~. It's heterophobic of you to say no one else can use it!

But really, I agree. Assuming it's used in a reclaiming context and not as a hateful insult -- if you identify as a "faggot," great for you; if you refer to another gay male as a "faggot" because he's more feminine, then no, that's still not okay.

I seriously love it when people in privileged groups complain about double-standards when they benefit from the majority of them. But the second someone who isn't them gets a small benefit, it is complaining time.

Right? The majority has controlled what minorities are called (among other things) for years and years. It is not any type of reverse oppression for a given minority to say no, you can't use that word to insult us anymore, and we are going to redefine its meaning on our own terms.

BUT IF I CAN'T USE A SLUR... THIS IS CLEARLY THE END OF THE FUCKING WORLD

HELP! HELP! I'M BEING OPPRESSED!

Re: Thank you!

Thank you for expressing this better than I could. If you are non-black, and use the word "nigger" to insult me, I'm going to be offended. If you are black, and use the word "nigger" to insult me, I'm going to be extra offended.

If you are non-black and close to me, and use the word "nigger" (or its variants) in a joking manner, I'm not going to be offended, but I am going to check you and let you know I don't do those jokes with non-blacks like that (not even if you give me "permission" to use a slur back against you -- which is something I don't do with racial slurs of other groups in any context). If you are black and close to me, and use the word "nigger" (or its variants) in a joking manner, I'm going to laugh. Huge difference due to the meaning having been changed -- which can still vary between black people and the groups they hang around (my personal group of friends and family use it in mock-Uncle Ruckus form for the lulz).

Much, much, much more complicated than ZOMG HIPPOCRISPY!!! (I saw it spelled that way once before and I've been lolling ever since)

Dammit this was supposed to be in response to your second reply.

Re: Thank you!

Exactly. I'm not black, but I understand that, and you can bet I have the same feelings towards words like "bitch" or "dyke" (personally, I don't even like "dyke" in any context, but I'm not gonna scold another lesbian if she uses it in a positive manner).
